Many thanks to The New York Times for publishing my letter to the editor on the collateral consequences of conviction as part of a collection of letters entitled, “Ideas for Cutting Prison Spending,” in its Friday, November 23, 2012 edition.
Everyone values public safety. It’s a cruel irony that on this subject, public policy has gone so far in one direction – towards limiting the rights of persons having a record on conviction – that the effect is to reduce safety by making it nearly impossible for such persons to live law-abiding lives.
